Marys Peak: Volunteer Seed Collection Kickoff!

August 1 @ 12:00 pm 4:00 pm

Please join the Institute for Applied Ecology (IAE) at the Marys Peak summit to help collect wild seeds for ecological restoration this summer! This is a great opportunity to see one of Oregon’s most spectacular sites, meet new friends and help preserve a truly unique ecosystem through seed collection. We will be gathering at Marys Peak and collecting Slender phlox and Field chickweed seeds in the wild for seed amplification and ecological restoration.

  • When: Tuesday, August 1, 2023 between 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm
  • Where: Marys Peak (about 45 minutes from Corvallis)
  • Work to be completed: Collecting Slender phlox and Field chickweed seeds in the wild
  • What to bring: Light lunch, water, closed toed shoes, jacket and potentially sunscreen for hot days in the field. All volunteers (or parent/guardian if volunteer is a youth) must fill out IAE’s volunteer release form ahead of time or bring it with them on the day of the event.

RSVP required. This event is limited to 10 participants so let us know if you are interested in attending soon! No special skills are required for this work, just good attitudes and smiles! Work will be completed on summit meadows and occasional steep slopes and there will be lots of walking. Bring your own vehicle or ride with us.

If you are interested in volunteering and have questions about this opportunity, please contact Evan Lasley at [email protected]. Learn more about the importance of native seed collection for restoring healthy ecosystems here.
