Taylor’s Checkerspot Butterfly Volunteer Day

June 4, 2024 @ 7:00 am 3:00 pm

Interested in learning more about our Conservation in Prisons program? This month, we need your help to transplant seedlings at Coffee Creek Creek Correctional Facility (CCCF) to feed Taylor’s Checkerspot butterflies! This is a great opportunity to learn more about the work we do to support conservation in prisons—in partnership with adults in custody and correctional facilities across the West. This event will be held outside the perimeter of the facility.

  • When: Tuesday, June 4, 2024 between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm
  • Where: Coffee Creek Correctional Facility (about 90 minutes from Corvallis). We will be working at the hoop house at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility alongside the viola crew. The hoop house is outdoors, but does have some shade and rain cover.
  • Work to be completed: Transplanting plantago plants from cones to larger pots to feed Taylor’s Checkerspot larvae next season.
  • What to bring: Full lunch, water, and clothes that can get dirty. All volunteers must fill out IAE’s volunteer release form and complete a background check to participate.

RSVP to Education Coordinator Frederick Livingston at [email protected] to sign up or with any questions. Please let us know if you’re interested BY MAY 28 so we can send you a background check for clearance.

All volunteers must complete a background check before participating in the event. If you are interested in participating in this event, but live closer to the Portland metro area, let us know! Once your background check has been processed, we will provide you with directions to meet us at the facility.

Our sincere thanks to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Oregon Department of Corrections for their funding and support of the Conservation in Prisons Program at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility.
