This report discusses our first year’s findings on the propagation requirements of Bartonberry (Rubus bartonianus), a federal species of concern, endemic to Hells Canyon along the Snake River and its tributaries within Oregon and Idaho. Preliminary results from this study indicate that Bartonberry can be propagated from both seed and cuttings, under a variety of treatments. High success rates among many scarification methods as well as untreated control subjects indicate there are many viable options for land managers looking to produce Bartonberry from seed. Cutting grown in perlite and perlite/vermiculite soil substrates were seen to develop roots and callus at a higher rate than cuttings grown in coconut or pine shavings.
