Jake Picardat

Seed Collection Coordinator, Plant Materials Program
[email protected]

Jake is the Seed Collection Coordinator for IAE’s Plant Materials Program, where he manages and coordinates all things related to seed collection to support the restoration and recovery of native ecosystems throughout Oregon and beyond.

Jake earned a B.S. in Geography from Grand Valley State University and an M.S. in Natural Resources and the Environment from the University of Michigan. His love for all things botanical stemmed from an internship with a local nature center in Michigan, where he put his GIS experience to use mapping invasive species and treatment efforts in forest ecosystems. This experience led him to pursue his Masters degree, and afterwards he worked with various federal government agencies across the country, including the United State Fish and Wildlife Service in Oklahoma, the Forest Service in Idaho, the Agricultural Resource Service in North Dakota, and the Bureau of Land Management in California. In these positions he focused on everything from seed collections to habitat restoration work and ecological research. Outside of work, you can find Jake bouldering, hiking, and taking photos of everything along the way.
