Andy grew up along the Wasatch Front in Utah before getting a B.A. in Geology-Chemistry in Walla Walla, WA. From there he found his way to Corvallis and earned a B.S. in Botany from Oregon State University. He became familiar with the flora of the Oregon while conducting native plant and forest ecology research at the US Forest Service for over 6 years. Andy capped his formal education with a M.S. in Forest Science from O.S.U. where he examined the effects of forest thinning on the adaptability of understory food plants for wildlife to potential climate change conditions. Andy has worked with Carex Working Group assessing weed infestations along the Willamette and Calapooia Rivers. Andy explored many of the various habitats and restoration sites within and surrounding the Willamette Valley as the Seed Collection Crew lead and Habitat Restoration Technician for IAE before being hired as a Restoration Ecologist.

When Andy is not busy botanizing and restoring native habitats for IAE he spends time with his wife, Tara, encouraging their two young kids, Alexander and Azure, to appreciate the natural world. He had a long career as an ultimate player and coach but currently chooses to bike instead of run.
