Please join the Institute for Applied Ecology (IAE) and Polk Soil and Water Conservation District to plant the beautiful and endangered Willamette daisy at the Cornerstone property. Cornerstone is owned by Polk Soil and Water Conservation District and is being managed for native prairie and oak habitat.
Site background:
- The 18-acre site has been in restoration for the past several years and was finally seeded with native prairie species in October 2023.
- Willamette daisy is found at a few other sites in Polk County, but this planting event represents a new introduction of this species at this particular site.
- This is a great opportunity to help introduce an endangered flower to a new site, meet new friends, and restore native species in the Willamette Valley.
Event Details:
- When: Thursday, November 16, between 9 am – 3 pm.
- Where: Cornerstone property in Polk County. Meet here (45°00’27.6″N 123°19’10.3″W) by 9 am.
- Accessibility notes: We will hike approximately a half mile on a grassy road with some wet, muddy, and steep sections. Once in the site, we will be on uneven and potentially slippery soil. You should expect to be kneeling and bending over while planting. There may be a porta potty located at the meeting spot, but not at the planting site.
- What to bring: Bring lunch, water, and warm clothes. Gloves are also advised. Planting tools will be provided. No experience necessary. We will hold this event regardless of the weather, so please bring rain gear and boots you are fine with getting muddy. All volunteers (or parent/guardian if the volunteer is a youth) must fill out IAE’s volunteer release form.
