Volunteer to plant native prairie plants!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY at Champoeg State Heritage Area

WHAT: Planting native bulbs and bare root plants as part of a prairie restoration project at Champoeg State Heritage Area. The planting will be to an area where traditional food and fiber plants will eventually be harvested by local tribes. Champoeg is 10 miles south east of Newberg, Oregon.

WHEN: Saturday November 20th, from 9:00 to 1:00

MEET: Meet at IAE at 7:45 if you would like to caravan from IAE, otherwise meet us near the boat launch just past the Oak Grove parking lot at Champoeg by 10:00 a.m. Unfortunately, due to COVID conditions we can’t share vehicles to drive to the planting event.

WHERE: Champoeg State Heritage Area, 8239 Champoeg Rd. NE, Saint Paul, Oregon. Enter the park and follow the signs to the Oak Grove parking area. As you enter the parking lot turn right towards the boat launch. The prairie parking will be on you left as you enter the grassy parking area.

WEAR: Please bring gloves if you have them, closed-toe shoe, and rain gear.
BRING: snacks or full lunch and a water bottle. Fill out the Volunteer Release form before the event.
SPECIAL SKILLS: None are required but you could be sitting/kneeling to get the small bulbs into the ground.

PLEASE RSVP: Please make sure to RSVP to Andy Neill ([email protected]) so we can be certain to bring sufficient tools for the day. You are welcome to meet at the project site or meet at the IAE office (563 SW Jefferson Ave.) at 7:45 am to caravan to the site.
The terrain will be flat and there will be easy access to toilet facilities a short walk away.
