The RARE Partnership

The RARE (Restoration and Reintroduction Education) Partnership is our environmental stewardship, service-learning program.  RARE promotes school and community involvement in the reintroduction of rare and endangered plants and the restoration of the habitats that support them.

We pair local schools with conservation areas where students actively plan and participate in restoration and reintroduction of rare and endangered plant species.  We engage students in hands-on restoration involving inquiry-based science to enhance the critical-thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills of local middle and high school students as we restore habitat for Oregon’s biodiversity and natural heritage. This year, the RARE Partnership is active in seven schools in Benton County.

Overheard

"Volunteers are the backbone, heart, and soul of the restoration movement. And whatever the eventual results of their labors may be, working to revive damaged ecosystems is transforming and strengthening their relationship with the rest of nature."

-William K. Stevens, Miracle Under the Oaks
