NOAA Panel presentation by Laura Brophy

Laura Brophy, Director of the Estuary Technical Group, spoke to NOAA's Hydrographic Services Review Panel in Vancouver, Washington on October 12, 2010.

She spoke as a representative of the Ecosystem Management end-user group, discussing Pacific Northwest applications of NOAA data for estuarine wetland conservation, restoration and strategic planning. Laura's presentation focused on collaboration between Estuary Technical Group members and NOAA's NOAA/Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) and NOAA/National Geodetic Survey (NGS). This recent collaboration has been supported by the Cooperative Institute for Coastal and Estuarine Environmental Technology (CICEET, http://ciceet.unh.edu/). The CICEET project team includes ETG members Craig Cornu as Principal Investigator, Brophy as technical lead, and Paul Adamus and John Christy as co-investigators; the project abstract is available at http://rfp.ciceet.unh.edu/projects/abstract.php?chosen=199 and all project reports are available at http://www.ciceet.unh.edu.
Overheard

"Volunteers are the backbone, heart, and soul of the restoration movement. And whatever the eventual results of their labors may be, working to revive damaged ecosystems is transforming and strengthening their relationship with the rest of nature."
