Brophy presentation to National Academies of Science
Laura Brophy, ETG Director, spoke to the National Academies' Committee on Sea Level Rise in California, Washington and Oregon on March 28, 2011 in Portland, Oregon.
Her presentation focused on the "big picture" of spatial distribution of estuarine wetland habitats relative to tidal and fluvial water levels, salinity, and coastal geomorphology, and how this "landscape array" of coastal wetland ecosystems may respond to climate change. The presentation drew from the Estuary Technical Group's extensive field experience on the Oregon coast, including design, monitoring and evaluation of restoration success at 15 major tidal wetland restoration projects on the Oregon coast; compilation of reference conditions data for 17 least-disturbed tidal wetland reference sites on the Oregon coast, and meta-analysis of those data; and basin-scale tidal wetland assessments and strategic action plans completed for six of the 10 largest Oregon estuaries south of the Columbia. http://dels.nationalacademies.org/Study-In-Progress/Level-Rise-California-Oregon/DELS-BESR-09-04
