Jackson-Frazier Wetland, Benton County Parks

Students in the Hands-On Science elective have been propagating plants at an incredible rate this year. We currently have several species of native grasses growing in the greenhouse and are looking forward to a big spring outplanting at Jackson-Frazier. In the fall, the Hands-On Science class planted camas bulbs, a historically important food source for the Kalapuya, near the entrance to the Jackson-Frazier boardwalk. Be sure to watch for their beautiful purple blooms early this spring!

Overheard

"Volunteers are the backbone, heart, and soul of the restoration movement. And whatever the eventual results of their labors may be, working to revive damaged ecosystems is transforming and strengthening their relationship with the rest of nature."

-William K. Stevens, Miracle Under the Oaks
