Fitton Green Natural Area, Benton County Parks and Natural Areas

High schoolers in the Field Biology course at CVHS have been participating in the process of designing and testing an experiment to determine the most effective propagation method for the threatened Kincaid’s lupine. Earlier this fall, they seeded a large plot at Fitton Green with 5,000 Kincaid’s lupine seeds to determine how well the seeds germinate when they are directly sown at a restoration site. CVHS students are now working on developing their written report on their growth experiment.

Overheard

"Volunteers are the backbone, heart, and soul of the restoration movement. And whatever the eventual results of their labors may be, working to revive damaged ecosystems is transforming and strengthening their relationship with the rest of nature."

-William K. Stevens, Miracle Under the Oaks
