Matt Carlson, Ph.D.

Matt Carlson

Matt Carlson is Director of the Habitat Restoration Program at IAE. He graduated with a B.S. from Willamette University in (1994) and received a Ph.D. (2002) from University of Alaska Fairbanks. He conducted research on the ecology of threatened and endangered plant species with the Oregon Department of Agriculture's Plant Conservation Biology Program from 1992 to 2002. For the last six years he has held a split position at the University of Alaska Anchorage as Assistant Professor of Biology and Program Botanist for the Alaska Natural Heritage Program.

Plant evolutionary ecology and plant conservation biology are Matt’s general fields of interest.  More specifically, his interests include plant reproductive ecology, evolution of mating systems, invasive species biology, Arctic and Pacific-Northwest flora, and prairie restoration.
