John Grotenfend

John received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a B.S. in Business from Oregon State University (1961). His work experience includes more than 25 years in a variety of domestic assignments with Chevron Corp. (now ChevronTexaco Corp.) and 15 years as a personal financial consultant. John and Frances (his spouse and partner of 42 years) were born and raised in western Oregon and Washington and have always been drawn to the ambience of the mountains, forest, rivers, and coastline of the Pacific Northwest, even when they lived in other parts of the U.S. They returned to Oregon in 2000 after a 36 year absence so they could indulge their passion in less crowded surroundings. John joined the Institute in 2002.

Overheard

"Volunteers are the backbone, heart, and soul of the restoration movement. And whatever the eventual results of their labors may be, working to revive damaged ecosystems is transforming and strengthening their relationship with the rest of nature."

-William K. Stevens, Miracle Under the Oaks
